White House Chief Strategist Stephen Bannon Resigns

Bannon, who was one of the closest aides of President Trump, on Friday resigned from the post of chief strategist, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

The New York Times reported earlier, citing White House officials, that Trump was considering firing Bannon.

The Times also reported that White House officials said it was Bannon’s idea to step down. He reportedly submitted his resignation on August 7 but the announcement of his departure was delayed by the Charlottesville events.

The report added that Bannon has clashed with senior White House officials and members of Trump’s family.
