Yet another alleged victim of Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has come forward to say that she was raped by the media mogul when she was a younger actress. But Rose McGowan seems to be more concerned with how the matter was handled by Amazon Studios head Roy Price, who she says ignored her repeated pleas to cut ties with Weinstein due to his predatory nature.
McGowan, who is perhaps best known for her role on the ’90s television drama Charmed, had been working under Price to produce her own show for the streaming giant when the issue of Weinstein’s illicit affairs came to a head. McGowan had apparently told Price that Weinstein had raped her, only to have Price deny these claims based on what he said was a complete lack of evidence.
McGowan’s response was that she is the evidence, which to Price still was not enough. So McGowan took to Twitter with her story, which has now hit national news and struck the Jeff Bezos-owned company with plenty of bad press. In retaliation, Price apparently killed McGowan’s television project, though he has since been relieved of his duties at Amazon Studios and placed “on a leave of absence effective immediately.”
The story has garnered so much attention that another individual, a producer who identifies as a lesbian, has also come forward with dirt on Price’s alleged inappropriate behavior towards her. This producer says that in 2015 while on a business trip at Comic Con, Price made a number of inappropriate remarks towards her. One of them had to do with her sexuality, in which Price stated: “You will like my d***.”
McGowan further claims that after Amazon Studios struck her show from development in retaliation that it proceeded to use her script anyway, despite the fact that she had already sold it to someone else. As part of a series of tweets to Jeff Bezos, McGowan made it known that the world’s largest online retailer infringed her via its online streaming service.
“2) @jeffbezos I had already sold a script I wrote to your studio, it was in development. When I heard a Weinstein bailout was in the works,” she wrote, further highlighting Amazon’s shady dealings with Weinstein.
In her other four tweets, McGowan emphasized that she had repeatedly gone to Price to tell him that Weinstein had raped her, but that he did nothing. She also told of how Amazon ended up winning a “dirty Oscar” despite it all, possibly referring to Casey Affleck’s Best Actor win for “Manchester by the Sea” earlier in the year. Affleck had won the award despite having two accusations levied against him by women who say he sexually harassed them.
McGowan further reminded Bezos that she had tried to get her script back, but that Amazon Studios had already claimed the show was “dead.” She then petitioned Bezos to turn from his current direction and “stand with the truth,” adding the popular quip from Gandhi to “be the change you want to see in the world.”
“It is unclear what role Weinstein played in the funding or sale of Manchester, but he has worked frequently with the film’s two leads – Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams – as well as the executive producer of the picture Matt Damon,” writes Chris Spargo for the DailyMail Online.
Weinstein is also connected to Casey’s brother Ben Affleck, who along with other known perverts like Jimmy Kimmel, Anthony Weiner, and Bill Clinton all have ties to Weinstein. As Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, puts it, the whole saga is a certifiable “parade of dirtbags,” and one that Americans won’t soon forget when deciding whether or not to catch the latest Hollywood flick.
