Hollywood celebrities have been slow out of the gate to denounce the alleged sexual misconduct by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein over a 30-year period.
The Oscar-winning Weinstein is a bigtime liberal who poured cash into Democrat coffers and backed Obama and Hillary Clinton. Despite his extensive liberal resume, the New York Times, in an October 4 expose, reported on a pattern of behavior against starlets, staffers, and other women which was an open secret in Hollywood. A follow-up was published this week by the equally leftist New Yorker magazine, after NBC News spiked the story — which may be a scandal in itself. According to the Times, Weinstein also paid off a number of women to keep them quiet. More victims are now coming forward in addition to those who provided on-the-record accounts to journalists. Many of them kept silent to avoid having the influential mega-producer ruin their careers.
Additional details in this massive scandal seem to be unfolding by the minute, which includes similar allegations against others in progressive Tinsel Town. Over the years, Weinstein allegedly intimidated news outlets into silence, which included a planned Times story back in 2004.
Once the board of directors banished Weinstein from the powerful production company that he co-founded in the light of the revelations, however, A-list celebs started to get more chatty.
At the 2012 Golden Globe ceremonies, renowned actress Meryl Streep described Harvey Weinstein as a “god” while accepting an award for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. On Monday of this week, she seemed to change her tune in a statement that was far less worshipful.
Streep claimed she knew nothing about Weinstein’s casting-couch proclivities.
The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported…
One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I didn’t know about these other offenses…
The behavior is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar. Each brave voice that is raised, heard and credited by our watchdog media will ultimately change the game.
Since this story involves the movie industry, some might say that Streep could be doing a callback to the classic film Casablanca, in the scene where Captain Renault (Claude Rains) says to Humphrey Bogart’s character, nightclub/casino owner Rick, “I’m shocked that there is gambling in this establishment.”
Many other celebs are similarly outraged over Harvey Weinstein’s alleged predatory behavior. Hillary Clinton and the Obamas released statements that condemned their former supporter and friend after five days or so had elapsed from when the scandal broke.
Meryl Streep, a leftist who supported Clinton in 2016, is also the same luminary who used the platform of the 2017 Golden Globes, when she was receiving yet another acting award, to denounce then-President-elect Donald Trump.
In January, Natural News founding editor Mike Adams opined about Meryl Streep and her cohorts.
The greatest mistake people like Meryl Streep keep making is thinking that they are experts in geopolitics and the structure of free societies. In truth, all the left-wing Hollywood fantasy land inhabitants are pathetically uninformed, unintelligent and largely unimportant to the real world.
… Hearing Meryl Streep talk about politics is a lot like listening to a Starbucks barista give you stock market investment advice.
When Hollywood limousine liberals try to dabble in politics, they often fail, as in their efforts in the runoff in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District in suburban Atlanta which was described as a national referendum on President Trump. GOP candidate Karen Handel won that election. (Related: Read more about hypocritical Hollywood at LiberalMob.com.)
