She may not be the most outspoken and articulate liberal Democrat, but when Mika Brzezinski does decide to open her mouth and speak, she says some really foolish things. Take what she said on last Thursday’s broadcast of Morning Joe, for example. After displaying a picture of tweet put out by the NRA (which depicted a rifle and read “I’ll control my own guns, thank you”), Brzezinski said, “The NRA, with their inflammatory ads, and threatening ads, should be sued and forced to take them down.”
That’s right. Mika Brzezinski believes in taking away the First Amendment rights of the top organization that defends your Second Amendment rights.
First and foremost, Brzezinski needs to understand that the freedom of speech applies to every single American, even if the message does not align with the progressive ideology. The liberals (including, and perhaps especially, the liberals in Silicon Valley) seem to think that political censorship is acceptable whenever it’s directed towards conservatives and right-of-center individuals, and they justify this censorship by claiming that they are just going after “fake news” or “hateful rhetoric.” The First Amendment applies to everyone, Mika, not just you and Joe Scarborough.
Second, this assault on the National Rifle Association is completely unwarranted and uncalled for. Despite the fact that the NRA doesn’t take a single penny from the American taxpayer, and even though they promote responsible gun ownership, the liberals are coming after the NRA in full force, just as they always do after every mass shooting.
Earlier this month, for instance, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy did an interview with Fox61, during which he went as far as to call the National Rifle Association a “terrorist organization.”
“They act, quite frankly, in some cases as a terrorist organization,” Malloy argued. “You want to make safer guns? We will boycott your company. That’s who they are. That’s what they do.” The Connecticut governor went on to say that the NRA has completely changed since the 1990s, noting that the organization had previously supported the idea of universal background checks and opposed teachers carrying firearms in the classroom. (Related: Contrary to what the lying left wing media says, the NRA did not “train” the Florida school shooter.)
As a side note, Dannel Malloy would never label groups like the Muslim Brotherhood, Black Lives Matter or Antifa “terrorist organizations” – he probably sees these groups as nothing more than demonstrators who are protesting against an unjust and unequal system. But when it comes to the National Rifle Association – an organization that promotes gun safety and seeks to uphold the Constitutional rights of all Americans – Dannel Malloy has no problem connecting them to terrorism.
What all of this comes down to is the fact that liberal democrats simply don’t have respect or an appreciation for the Constitution. Mika Brzezinski wants to strip the NRA of their First Amendment rights to prevent them from defending the Second Amendment. Dannel Malloy believes that the NRA is a terrorist organization, and has worked tirelessly with the rest of the liberals in Connecticut to infringe on the right to bear arms. Other leftists, both in Washington D.C. and within the mainstream media, are renewing this push to shut down the NRA for good and want to enact sweeping gun control laws with zero regards to the Second Amendment. In this way, the Constitution isn’t just disrespected by the left; it’s seen as an obstacle that is preventing them from carrying out their radical, big government ideology.
This assault from the progressives is not just an attack on guns; it’s an attack on liberty and the Constitution.
