It happens every time: Liberals love leveraging tragedy to push their agenda

A Republican lawmaker who was shot in the hip last year during a GOP congressional baseball practice session isn’t calling for more gun control post-Parkland like his liberal counterparts are. Instead, he’s calling for members of Congress to work on identifying “the root of these problems” that lead perpetrators to commit violent mass shootings in the first place.

Speaking during a recent interview on Fox News‘s “The Ingraham Angle,” House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who on June 14, 2017, became one of the targets of liberal gunman James Hodgkinson, had scathing words for lawmaking leftists. He said their efforts to immediately begin a crusade – using children, no less –to demand that law-abiding citizens be further restricted in the firearms they’re allowed to purchase is “disgraceful.”

“Taking away the rights of law-abiding citizens,” he emphasized, isn’t an appropriate response to the misuse of weapons by deranged individuals – many of whom, we here at Natural News have repeatedly pointed out, had been taking mind-altering psychotropic pharmaceuticals before committing acts of mass violence.

If anything, these dangerous drugs are far more responsible for mass shooting events than guns are. And yet, there’s never any talk in the mainstream media or by lawmakers about banning their use.

“Anytime there’s any kind of tragedy – I mean a shooting, a bombing, whatever – immediately you’ve got a group of legislators that go run out, start calling for gun control and taking away the rights of law-abiding citizens,” Rep. Scalise emphasized during the televised interview. “And again, look at their bills, read their bills. They have nothing to do with these kinds of shootings.”

Mass shootings are always a perfect excuse for liberals to trample the Second Amendment

This knee-jerk reaction by most liberals, including liberal congressmen and groups like Everytown for Gun Safety, after tragic events like Parkland is always the same – and it’s always futile. Even if these liberals did get their precious gun control legislation passed, it wouldn’t really do anything to stop mass shooting events as there are many other factors that contribute to their incidence.

“So this idea that one magic law is going to stop the next one from happening – it’s not,” added Rep. Scalise. “What you do see in common is, number one, you see a lot of mental illness in common, but you also see gun-free zones. Shooters know that if you go to a gun-free zone, you’re the only one with a gun that nobody else has.”

If it weren’t for the armed law enforcement agents who accompanied Rep. Scalise and his colleagues to baseball practice on that fateful day, the outcome of that shooting may have been much worse. He credits the presence of these armed experts for containing the situation quickly, and believes that having more well-trained, armed individuals in society – not less – is part of what will help to ensure that mass shooting events don’t occur in the future.

“And ultimately that’s what took him down. It was other people with guns that took down the shooter,” Rep. Scalise says. “And if there weren’t other people with guns to stop the shooter, there would have been 15 members of Congress executed that day. And there weren’t, luckily, by the grace of God, first of all. There were true miracles that happened on that field.”

Teaching people how to remain calm in potentially life-threatening situations like a mass shooting event is another strategy that gun experts say will help. Learning how to carefully observe factors that might represent a threat, known as situational awareness, can go a long way in containing potential risks and keeping them from spiraling out of control into a tragedy.
